Building the Mill Floor
June 7th, 2010
  • A heavy duty flooring solution
  • The floor of the mill is constructed using doubled 2x6 joists spaced at 16" on center. Topped with 3/8" sheathing for lateral stability and 4/4" pressure treated southern yellow pine planks, the mill floor is remarkably strong and has virtually no spring.

Much like the rest of the mill, the floor system incorporates ASTM rated steel straps to provide increased strength at joints and has battens installed between the planks to inhibit the passage of water.
