Assembly of the Windmill Tower
Sept 30, 2011
  • An Adventure in Itself
  • Click on the image below to watch a highlight video of the assembly of the windmill tower in Yorktown. As you'll see from the film, there are a few times when having just the right tool is essential to success. This is clearly the case with the crane that was provided by Hampton Roads Crane and Rigging and ably piloted by Jeff Hyatt.

  • Building a Windmill - From the Ground Up
  • Amazingly, the process shown in the pictures below took just over two hours to complete. Although there were a few spots where pieces didn't quite fit, there was nothing that couldn't be fixed with a crow bar and the judicious use of force.

  • Volunteers
  • This was indeed a red letter day for the project. Our appreciation goes out to the great volunteers that helped to leave the windmill standing tall.
